Algebra

This chapter reviews elementary algebra, a fundamental topic that underpins much of what you'll encounter in your studies, with a few additional topics for context. Even students with a strong math background often benefit from a quick refresher—browsing the material and tackling some of the more challenging exercises is a great way to prepare. If your background is weaker or it’s been a while since you studied math, read Chapter 2 in Sydsæter et al. (2021) carefully and complete most exercises. Struggling significantly? That’s okay—consider reviewing a more basic algebra resource first. Strengthening your foundation now will make your transition into Econometrics and Operations Research or Econometrics and Data Science much smoother.
